Today's Sermon: To Enter God's Kingdom

Scripture Lesson:  Matthew 19:13-30

13 Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. 14 Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." 15 When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.

16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"

17 "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments."

18 "Which ones?" he inquired. Jesus replied, " 'You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,'and 'love your neighbor as yourself.' "

20 "All these I have kept," the young man said. "What do I still lack?"

21 Jesus answered, "you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."

22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God."

25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, "Who then can be saved?"

26 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

27 Peter answered him, "We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?"

28 Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife[c] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. 30 many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first."

A five week Advent Study for adult Sunday School

Begins on November 22nd

Advent Study

On Christmas Eve, Christians around the world join their voices in celebration as they wait with expectation for the coming light of Christ into the darkness of the world. But

  • What is this light all about?
  • What are the promises that God fulfills in the birth of Jesus?
  • How are we, as God's people, called to respond to such an event?
  • Do we just operate on auto pilot or does God ask more of us?

Advent is a time of year when we anticipate and prepare for the birth of Jesus. Our five week Advent study will try to explore these questions by looking at the scriptures of Isaiah that prophecy the coming the birth of Christ and the establishment of God's reign here on earth with Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Each week we will explore a new theme introduced in the Isaiah passages: Hope, Peace and Love

Samaritan's Purse Children Christmas Gifts

on or before November 15 noon time

During the past two years, our Church and school have participated the project of 'Operation Christmas Child’ via Samaritan’s Purse. This is a meaningful project that collects shoebox-size boxes of gifts for the children who are affected by the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami in 2011. Those children lost many precious things by this natural disaster.

shoe box time

It is very simple to support this project, just three steps:

  1. Find a shoebox or a shoebox sized box (an old one is fine since we cover it)
  2. Get some gifts for children (you can choose gender and age range, please refer to the web site link below for the details)
  3. JPY 700 for one box’s postage and donation (to the office on Sunday)

The deadline for the sending of the shoebox gifts to the Collection Center of this project is November 20, 2015. So please turn in the empty shoeboxes, gifts and donation to our church or school on or before November 15 noon time.

We are blessed that we could contribute around 25 boxes in the past 2 years through the donations of Yokohama Christian School and the church. This year, we have the big target of 50 boxes. Let’s try to hit the target.

Last but not least, it is a great opportunity for us to serve the others, please also get more of your family members and friends involved. For any inquiry, please contact Yokohama Union Church at yuc@yokohamaunionchurch.org.

For more information, please go website of Samaritan's Purse Japan (OCCシューボックス).

shoe box achievement

Praise the Lord! Yokohama Union Church has achieved a big goal of project this year, 53 beautiful, lovely shoeboxes are ready to be sent to OCC シューボックス for the children in Touhoku.

Every shoebox is special, every shoebox is an opportunity to connect children around the world through the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thank all of you who have contributed in donating money, shopping, and wrapping, we pray that God will bless all of you greatly!

Everybody had much fun and enjoyed the timeless music and a classic BBQ chicken dinner. One little boy was so fascinated by the drums, he may now be on a career path as a future star drummer. Quoting from our featured song, Jesus On The Mainline, "Jesus will never leave you alone, tell Him what you want."...May the LORD our God bless the little boy and make all of our dreams come true!
